Vampire Weekend Releases New Album "Only God Was Above Us"
Columbia Records Release
Album Available Now on LP, CD, and Digital Platforms
New York City-based indie rock band Vampire Weekend released their fourth studio album, "Only God Was Above Us," on May 6, 2023, via Columbia Records. The album is available on LP, CD, and all major digital platforms.
The album's title, "Only God Was Above Us," is a reference to the band's early days playing shows in small, intimate venues. In a recent interview, lead singer Ezra Koenig explained, "We used to play these tiny clubs where we could see everyone in the audience. It felt like we were all in this together, like we were all part of something bigger than ourselves."
"Only God Was Above Us" is Vampire Weekend's first album since their 2019 release, "Father of the Bride." The band spent the last three years writing and recording the album, which features collaborations with a number of artists, including Danielle Haim, Steve Lacy, and John Congleton.
The album has received critical acclaim, with many critics praising the band's return to their earlier, more experimental sound. The New York Times called the album "a triumph," while Pitchfork praised its "lush, ambitious arrangements" and "Koenig's sharp songwriting."
