Starliner Soars to Space with Two NASA Astronauts

After Two Aborted Attempts, Boeing's Spacecraft Finally Lifts Off

A Boeing-built Starliner spacecraft carrying two NASA astronauts soared toward space on Sunday, June 5, 2024, after two previous attempts to launch were scrubbed.

The spacecraft, named Starliner, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 6:54 p.m. EDT, atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. The astronauts on board, Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita Williams, are scheduled to spend six months aboard the International Space Station, conducting research and maintenance.

This is the first time that Boeing has launched astronauts to the space station. The company has had a rocky road in developing its Starliner spacecraft, with two previous attempts to launch being aborted due to technical problems.

If this mission is successful, it will be a major milestone for Boeing and for NASA. It will also pave the way for the company to start flying regular astronaut missions to the space station.
