Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. Founded in 1943 by the Bishops of the United States, CRS provides emergency relief and development assistance to people in more than 100 countries without regard to race, religion, or nationality. CRS provides a wide range of services, including food assistance, shelter, healthcare, and education. CRS also works to promote peace and justice in the world.

CRS has a long history of providing assistance to people in need. During World War II, CRS provided relief to victims of the war in Europe and Asia. In the years after the war, CRS continued to provide assistance to people in need in Europe and around the world. CRS provided relief to victims of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, and the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

In the 1970s, CRS began to focus more on development assistance. CRS provided assistance to people in developing countries to help them improve their lives. CRS provided assistance to farmers to help them increase their crop yields, to families to help them build homes, and to schools to help them provide education to children. CRS also provided assistance to people in need in the wake of natural disasters, such as the 1972 earthquake in Nicaragua and the 1976 drought in the Sahel region of Africa.

Today, CRS continues to provide a wide range of services to people in need around the world. CRS provides emergency relief to victims of natural disasters, such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and the 2013 typhoon in the Philippines. CRS also provides development assistance to help people in developing countries improve their lives.
