The Czech Republic, Known Officially as Czechia

The Czech Republic, officially known as Czechia, is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. Historically known as Bohemia, it is bordered by Austria to the south, Germany to the west and northwest, Poland to the northeast, and Slovakia to the east.

Etymology and History

The name "Czechia" is derived from the Czech tribe that settled in the area during the 6th century AD. The country's historical name, Bohemia, refers to the Celtic tribe known as the Boii who inhabited the region in ancient times. After the fall of the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1918, the country became part of Czechoslovakia. However, in 1993, Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved into two independent states: the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Geography and Demographics

The Czech Republic covers an area of approximately 78,866 square kilometers and has a population of about 10.7 million people. The country is characterized by rolling hills, mountains, and forests, with the highest peak being Mount Sněžka in the Krkonoše Mountains.
